Rook for Blanton Turner
Tacoma, WA
Tacoma, WA
With branding inspired by Tacoma's historic timber industry and it's current brewery boom, Blanton Turner's goal was to have Rook sound like the local spot to be. The brief asked for honest, authentic, and welcoming like Nick Offerman from Parks & Rec. The tone aimed to be wry without tilting too far into sarcasm. Above all, they wanted welcoming. Meanwhile, the site content needed to appeal to a mixed demographic of Air Force families, students, and single-occupants alike.
The final voice is as friendly as your neighborhood brewmaster.

Inspired by Tacoma’s historic timber industry, Rook combines reclaimed woods and steel beams for an industrial style as a nod back to our origin. Our lobby is steeped in a roaring fireplace where you’re surrounded by craft beer makers, artisans, and museums full of our rich local history. Topped off with rooftop views of Commencement Bay and Mount Rainier, it’s a place to get cozy, pull up a seat, and share the day’s stories. Here, a cold beverage is a given and a warm fire is a must.
If you’ve got a similar project, don’t hesitate to reach out. I’ve had a long rest and I’m ready to do magic again.
